FitWit Decatur Member of the Month – October: Sara Turbow!

Team, put your hands together for October’s Member of the Month: Sara Turbow! Sara has been a staple to the 5am crew since she started back. Hardly missing a class, you can consistently count on her to be there @ 5am for 3 x a week, week after week, and month after month. Wow! She’s a total rockstar and her hard work has paid off and shows in all her progress. On top of all that, she exudes a positive attitude at the crack of dawn, she’s open to coaching, and is a great workout partner while still taking her form seriously. We are so proud of Sara and how she encompasses what we’re all about here at FitWit. Way to go, Turbow!

When did you first start FitWit-ing? 

I started FitWit in 2011 when I was in school! After many years away, I rejoined in the spring of 2021.

 

 

Tell us about your sports & fitness background: 

 I grew up playing soccer and volleyball (poorly), played rugby in college, dabbled in triathlons, and I have been a runner most of my adult life.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting FitWit?

I feel and look stronger! My rowing times have also notably improved.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected?

 I have finally adjusted to waking up before 5 AM three days a week! FitWit has also helped me learn to enjoy the process of working out (including warming up, which I previously strenuously avoided) rather than just focusing on the results.

Why do you FitWit?

 I have always been active, but I missed the community and structure that comes with group workouts. I love feeling strong and powerful and FitWit helps me feel that way!

Favorite workouts?

My favorite formats are team workouts and EMOMs. I also like any workout with decreasing rep counts as the workout progresses πŸ™‚ My favorite moves are kettlebell swings, cleans, and ropes (I like to move heavy-ish stuff around quickly!)

Least favorite workouts?

My least favorite moves are burpees and inchworms; my least favorite conditioning is the airbike and jump rope.

Any favorite FitWit moments?

 While ESD workouts are not my favorite, I enjoy the camaraderie that comes from supporting each other across the finish line!

Fitness Goals?

 I want to be able to do an unassisted pull-up. I would like to do another marathon at some point.
