O4W Member of the Month – Matthew P.

We’re stoked to announce the Member of the Month goes to the legendary Matty P! Matt’s been around since the earlier days of FitWit and has been as consistent as they come, especially given his busy travel schedule for work and for pleasure. Through the 8 years that he has been working out with FitWit Nation, his effort, enthusiasm, and focus on improvement have not wavered. It’s to no one’s surprise that with his 40th birthday this month, Matt set some smart and attainable goals for himself over the past several weeks so that he could enter his new decade feeling as strong and healthy as ever. Age: 40!  (just had my 40th birthday on May 10)

Occupation: Google (advertising sales)

When did you first start FitWiting? March 2011. In fact, I was the 1st person to sign up for the FitWit Midtown location (which eventually merged with Grant Park to form FitWit O4W).

Tell us about your sports & fitness background:  I’ve always loved sports. I played football, basketball and ran track in high school. Football has always been my biggest passion. We won the South Carolina high school state championship my senior year and I was the starting Safety on defense. I kind of fell off the fitness bandwagon in college and in my early 20s.  It’s great to be back at it now with FitWit.

What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health and fitness since starting FitWit? My body feels more toned. I have more energy. I sleep better at night. I’ve lost weight.

What sort of changes in your life have you experienced out of taking on something like FitWit that were totally unexpected? I’ve met a lot of people and have made some good friends through FitWit over the 8 years.

Why do you FitWit? To feel better physically. It also allows me to eat a little more than I would have without doing FitWit. 🙂  But I’m pretty healthy during the week. I just splurge a bit on the weekend.

Favorite workouts? Anything with running. Love team competitions.

Least favorite workouts?  Pullups.They’ve always been a struggle for me but I’m improving.

Three words to describe you:  Duke Blue Devil

Any favorite FitWit moments? So many memories of our time at FitWit Midtown across a variety of venues and the fun of getting to know a whole new crew of members when Midtown & Grant Park merged to form FitWit O4W.

Fitness Goals?  Since I was a kid, I always wanted to run a marathon. I finally did it by running the Georgia Marathon in Atlanta in March 2018. FitWit really helped me by building up my strength & endurance as I prepared for the race.

Words to live by (Favorite Quote)? I’m a big Bob Marley fan so I’ll have to go with “Don’t worry about a thing, ’cause every little thing gonna be all right.”  I don’t always live by those words but I try.

Something cool we don’t know about you?  I love to travel. I’ve visited 48 U.S. states (sorry, Iowa & Nebraska),101 countries & 6 continents.

Anything else you’d care to share?  “If the pants don’t fit, you must FitWit!” – a tagline I came up with several years ago at the end of a class!
